PARTNERING WITH GOD THROUGH PRAYER

PRAYER: AN IMPORTANT BLESSING

Prayer is one of the most important blessings in a believer’s life. Just think! We, His creation, are invited to talk to Him through the activity of prayer. He desires this kind of interaction with us. After all, we are His children; not His robots. He made us in His image so that He could have fellowship with us. Prayer is one of the ways in which we can do that.

Scripture passages like “Pray without ceasing.” 1 Thessalonians 5:17); “The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much.” (James 5:16), the Lord’s prayer (Matthew 6:9-13) and many more show us the importance of prayer. They also encourage us to pray.

PRAY TO RECEIVE

Far too often we only think about praying when we need something from God. This kind of praying is easy for us to do, because we know He loves us and wants to meet our needs. We are told in Matthew 7:7, “Ask, and it will be given to you.” So we ask. And that is what we should do.

PRAY IN PARTNERSHIP WITH GOD

You mean God has desires also? Yes. The following Scripture is an example.

“He (Jesus) said to his disciples, ‘The harvest is great, but the workers are few. So pray to the Lord who is in charge of the harvest; ask him to send more workers into his fields.'”

Matthew 9:37 NLT

This passage clearly tells us that the Lord who is in charge of the harvest will not send more workers into his fields unless we pray for him to do just that.

You can be a partner with God. And this prayer for more workers in his fields is in union with His own heart. The following is a sample prayer you can pray.

Heavenly Father, Lord of the harvest, I ask you to send many more workers (laborers) into the fields of this world (Your world) to preach the Gospel of Your dear Son, Jesus, to those who still have not heard about Him. I ask this of You so that they may hear of Him and also believe in Him for eternal life. I ask this in the name of Jesus, Your Son and my Lord. Amen.

Why is prayer so important? After all, God knows what we need and what He wants to do even if we don’t pray. Why does He require us to pray for these things? Because He wants us to have a part in them coming to pass. And, He has chosen not to act until we pray.

THANK YOU FOR PRAYING

Thank you for praying this prayer with me. I hope you will pray it often. Our working together with the Lord will produce great results.
